Col. Alta Huggins Hart, USAF Retired, peacefully departed this life on December 30, 2020, at her home in Fair Oaks. California. Alta was born in Globe, Arizona on April 22, 1932, to John R. Huggins and Amelia Bills Huggins. She is survived by Peter, her devoted husband of 55 years. Her parents, four sisters (Anne Purdy, Jackie Swanson, Colleen Maloy, and Martha Halvorson), preceded her in death. She also leaves numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Alta was raised in Globe and graduated in 1950, ranking 2nd in her high school class. She attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah earning her nursing degree in 1955 from the University of Utah. She began her nursing career at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City and was soon selected to work in the operating room with Dr. Russell M. Nelson, a renowned cardiologist and thoracic surgeon. She aided him in research and surgery for nearly 6 years. Alta joined the USAF and served as a nurse there for 20 years, including tending wounded soldiers being air evacuated out of Vietnam in the 60s. After her retirement from the Air Force, she continued her nursing career for 15 years at Sutter Roseville Hospital. An accomplished pianist and organist, Alta accompanied choirs, played for church meetings, funerals, and countless other events with never-failing perfection. Together, Alta and Peter were benefactors to innumerable struggling people. They were continually generous in their support of families, single mothers, and college students. When they became aware of anyone in need, they immediately reached out and assisted. Alta was loved and admired by all who knew her. A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she accepted all assignments given her and fulfilled them with exactness. She was devoted to serving the Lord and building His kingdom. She was soft-spoken, humble, brilliant, and articulate. Her example was inspiring. She was loved and admired by all who knew her. Alta will be sorely missed by her family, many friends, and most especially by her adoring husband, Peter. Private Funeral Services for Alta will be held at Green Valley Mortuary in Rescue, California. A private burial will take place on Friday, January 15 at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California.
