Bert was introduced to the love of his life, Barbara, by family members. Their marriage lasted for 53 years until Barbara passed away in 2007. They raised two daughters, Sandy Jenkins and Melissa Plexico in West Covina and Running Springs, eventually moving to El Dorado County in 1982. Although he held other jobs after his retirement, his job as a firefighter was the work he most loved and for which he will be most remembered. His grandchildren, Cassandra and Ryan were the light of his life and he greatly enjoyed watching their sports and school activities. Bert was a gentle man, had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tease his family. He loved to work crossword puzzles, enjoyed card games and was a frequent visitor to Red Hawk Casino. Bert suffered his first heart attack in 1974 and first open heart surgery in 1981. He experienced many heart problems throughout the years but remained active and independent until the end. His strong will and love for his family made him a true hero and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
