Daniel Reynolds Kester Obituary (1920

KESTER, Daniel Reynolds Born on April 1, 1920. A Rancho Cordova resident for 48 years, Dan died peacefully at his home in Gold River, CA Sunday evening March 28, 2010. Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Anne, whom he loved dearly for 45 years. He was a loving and caring father to Steven and daughter-in-law Ann Kester, son Jeffrey Kester, and daughter Jackie Kester; also his two loving step-daughters, Libby Prall and Sarah Forest (FKA Susan Nauslar). He is survived by 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Dan enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941 and rose through the enlisted ranks to Master Sergeant. He was commissioned in 1942 as a 2nd Lieutenant after attending Officer's Training School. During World War II, he saw action in the South Pacific, New Guinea, and Philippines as the combat intelligence officer for the 340th P-47 Fighter Squadron of the 348th Fighter Group. In his Air Force career, he served as Assistant Deputy of Intelligence at Mitchell Field in Long Island, New York. He was also stationed at Burtonwood, England, during the Berlin Airlift, Mather Air Force Base as Commander of the 3535th Support Squadron, Reese Air Force Base in Texas as Provost Marshall, Libya, North Africa and Ramstein, Germany as the Assistant Director of Security and Law Enforcement for the Headquarter 17th Air Force which was responsible for security to bases in Italy, France, Greece, The Netherlands, Libya, Morocco, and Turkey. Dan retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel. Following retirement from the Air Force, Dan worked as a Quality Control Analyst in the Polaris Program at Aerojet General Corporation. He also was employed by the Civil Service as an Industrial Engineering Analyst for the Engineering Squadron at Mather Air Force Base. Dan retired in 1982. After retirement, Dan and his loving companion, Anne, traveled America, Canada, and Europe. His favorite hobbies were painting in oils and stamp collecting. He will be missed by all.
