Rescue, California
A much-loved husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, Edward passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026, in Sacramento, California, surrounded by his wife, children, and his favorite music.
Edward was born on July 11, 1960, in Burlingame, California, to Edward and Deanne Fernandez. He treasured memories of growing up and spending time with his great-grandparents, grandparents, and extended family in San Bruno, California. His family later moved to Pleasanton and eventually made their home in Niles, California.
He graduated from Mission San Jose High School in Fremont, California, in 1978 and later earned a music degree with special honors from Ohlone College in 1982. He then spent eight years studying under Warren Nunes, an internationally published author on jazz improvisation and one of East Bay’s most respected musicians.
His career in the retail and wholesale food industry spanned more than 40 years. He began with Lucky Stores, where he worked for 15 years, and later spent 22 years as a Route Sales Representative with Colombo Baking Company, serving much of the Greater Bay Area. He retired in 2020 from PepsiCo (Naked Juice) in Sacramento, California.
In his younger years, Ed enjoyed spending time in the Sierra Nevada with loved ones and friends, backpacking, fishing, and skiing. An avid runner, he participated in several marathons, as well as races such as Bay to Breakers. He also loved fast cars, and many remember his iconic yellow Datsun 240Z.
Ed’s love for the San Francisco Giants was a lifelong passion and a tradition he shared with those he loved. He was also a devoted fan of both the Raiders and the 49ers.
Most of all, music was his passion from an early age. A gifted and talented musician, Ed was a guitarist by trade, but he could play nearly any instrument he picked up. He sang beautifully. He loved all genres of music, from classical and jazz to rock ’n’ roll, blues, and old country. He generously shared his love of music with loved ones and musician friends near and far.
Ed loved the foothills life he shared with his wife, Stacey, and their pup, Buster P. He enjoyed landscaping projects, restoring his beloved ’69 Mustang, and hosting music jams with friends, but his most cherished moments were those spent with family and in his role as Grandpa Ed/Papa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Fernandez, and his brother-in-law, John Psaila.
He is survived by his wife, Stacey Fernandes, of Cameron Park, California; his son, Michael Fernandes, daughter-in-law, Huma, and granddaughter, Siena, of Lone Tree, Colorado; his son, Anthony Jon Fernandes, and daughter-in-law, Madison, of Davis, California; his stepson and stepdaughter, Ian and Stephani Hilder, and step grandchildren, Mads, Griffin, and Sophie, of Folsom, California; his mother, Deanne Fernandez, of Hayward, California; his sister, Lisa Psaila, and her family, of San Bruno, California; and his sister, Theresa Ballinger, her husband, Matt, and their family, of San Lorenzo, California. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
