Gloria Larsen Hunter of El Dorado Hills, CA died on May 28, 2021 after a long illness. Born on January 12, 1943 in Delta, UT, she was the eldest of seven children born to Phil Larsen and Muriel Jenson Larsen. Gloria was the center of her sprawling family's social network. She gathered and disseminated information to keep her family connected and coordinate visits, road trips and gatherings to mark important life events. Her door was always open, and she would never turn down the opportunity to take a visitor to the local fruit stand for fresh strawberries or to old town Folsom for her favorite Chinese food. She made friends easily, possessing a playful sense of mirth, and she lived her life with joyous purpose. She was active in her local congregation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she held a variety of volunteer teaching and mentoring positions, as well as serving at the Sacramento Temple. A lover of word games, mysteries and fiber arts, every new baby in her extended family and her congregation received a hand crocheted baby blanket while she was still able to craft. After briefly attending Brigham Young University, Gloria returned to her hometown of Carson City, NV, where she began working for the state. It was there she met her husband of 57 years, Kirt Merton Hunter. They married on March 14, 1964 and have one son, Shawn Paul Hunter (43). Kirt and Gloria moved to California in 1967 and Gloria worked for the Berkeley City Club as an administrative assistant for eight years prior to becoming a stay-at-home mother. Both Kirt and Gloria eventually retired to enjoy each other, the garden, their cats, and their many, many books. Her generosity, stories, and sense of humor were appreciated, and will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. She is survived by her husband Kirt, her son Shawn (Shannon), her siblings, Jerry (Kathryn) Larsen, Louis (Karen) Larsen, Rex Larsen, Michael (Lynnette) Larsen, Nancy (Robert) Riedel, and Chris (Jilanne) Larsen, as well as their families and her many friends.
