Lawerence Boyd “Larry” Taber August 1, 1944 – March 8, 2026 Lawerence Boyd “Larry” Taber, known to everyone simply as Larry, passed away peacefully at home on March 8, 2026, at the age of 81. He spent the first half of his life in California’s Central Valley before settling in Cameron Park, where he lived for nearly 50 years. On June 20, 1964, Larry married Euela Taber. Together they created a life and family that spanned more than six decades. Larry built a long and respected engineering career. He worked for the State of California Department of Water Resources as a Senior Control System Engineer before retiring from state service. Never one to slow down, he continued working as Lead Commissioning and Startup Engineer for Black & Veatch on the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission Hetch Hetchy facilities, as a Senior Engineer for d4aConsulting, and as a SCADA Specialist and Senior Engineer for Trimark Associates, Inc. But if you knew Larry, you know his job titles were only part of the story. At heart, Larry was a cowboy and an adventurer. In his younger years in Bakersfield, he ran cattle and loved life as a “weekend rancher.” He was happiest outdoors — hunting, fishing, or chasing the next adrenaline rush. Over the years he went skydiving, rode motorcycles, glider plane pilot, scuba dived, and even raced the cycling portion of Eppie’s Great Race. If it involved speed, adventure, or a little bit of risk, Larry was usually willing to try it. Larry also had a deep love for animals. For a time, he served as president of the Kern Retriever Club and had a special fondness for Labrador Retrievers, which he trained for both show and field. Many of those dogs became beloved members of the family over the years, including one especially memorable pup named Sunny. Larry loved sports. In high school, he served as class president and was captain of the football team. In later years, he could often be found cheering on his favorite teams at San Francisco 49ers games, Sacramento Kings games, and Stockton Thunder hockey games. At home, Larry took great pride in his grilling and was always happy to fire up the barbecue for family gatherings, friends, and community events. Larry was many things: independent, adventurous, and a master storyteller who always had a tale ready — sometimes hilarious, sometimes a little inappropriate, but always memorable. Perhaps the role he cherished most was being a grandfather. He was an incredible grandpa to his three grandsons, Eric Giacomini, Ryan Giacomini, and Chance Taber Thompson, and he loved them deeply. Larry is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Euela Taber; his daughters, Mickie Giacomini and Seana Taber; his son-in-law, Dave Giacomini and his three grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond George Taber Sr. and Esmerelda Lorraine Taber; his brothers, Robert Taber and Raymond George Taber Jr.; and son-in-law, Jarrod Thompson. In his later years, Larry often ended conversations with the same heartfelt words: “I love you, more than you’ll ever know. Don’t ever forget it.” If you knew Larry, you probably have a story.
