Margaret Sue Renna-Waters

–

Rescue, California

It is with great sadness that we announce that Margaret "Sue" Renna-Waters passed away on May 29,2016, at 7:20 pm, in Marshall Hospital in Placerville, Calif. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Her parents, Alexander O. Bradley and Jessie M. Bumgarner (both deceased), gave birth to her on Friday, May 13, 1925, in Clay County, N.C. Together they had 11 children. Margaret, being one of the middle children, lived to be 01. She is survived by Susan Enslen, her daughter; her son-in-law, Jim Enslen; and Bettye Piper Renna, her younger daughter. Susan was with her as she passed peacefully with a smile on her face. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kevin Michael, Kimberley Michele and Kristopher Matthew Enslen; her great-grandchildren, Alexis Grace Behrens, Kennedy Sophia Behrens, Jade Mariah Roybal, Ava Sue Enslen, Cash James Enslen and Bryce Easton Enslen; her youngest brother, Frank Bradley; her sisters-in-law, Wanda and Margit; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Margaret grew up in Hayesville, N.C., and as she got older moved and married our dad, Salvatore Anthony Renna, from Philadelphia, Pa. He was in the Army, so we traveled to various places such as Nuremberg, Germany; Quito, Ecuador; and other states in the USA. We ended up in San Francisco, Calif., where Sal passed away on the Presidio in San Francisco. Margaret opened a rest home (board and care) in San Francisco because her daughter Bettye was born with cerebral palsy and in a wheelchair and she could keep her home with her and work. It was very successful and she had a great reputation. Later on, she opened a bed and breakfast in Mariposa, Calif. called Villa Monti. She had a late friend and partner, Eugene Lawrence, who was in the San Francisco Opera. They traveled to the Philippines together with the Opera and she met and had dinner with the President of the Philippines and his wife. Margaret met her second husband, Harold Waters, and they settled in Placerville. After his death, she went back to her hometown in North Carolina and took Bettye, her youngest daughter with her. Eventually caring for Bettye became difficult for her, so Bettye moved back to California and Margaret eventually moved back to California and Margaret eventually moved back, too. She ended up living with her daughter Susan the last two and a half years of her life, then lived in a board and care home for about 6 weeks. The last few days of her life she was in Marshall Hospital in Placerville with Susan by her side when she passed. Margaret was loved by everyone who met her and she helped many. She was so loving, generous, fun, kind, independent, ambitious, hard working, a free spirit (way ahead of her times) and sweet. There aren't enough words to describe her. She will forever be missed, loved, and remembered. Recorded Memorial Service available through this link https://youtu.be/SsL4DggAR9g
