Marion Lois Quate Obituary (2025)

Marion Lois Quate at the age of 87, went home to Jesus peacefully with her loved ones by her side on July 15, 2025, at Marshall General Hospital, Placerville, California. Marion was born to Olaf and Freda on August 6, 1937 in Wahpeton, North Dakota. Survived by three Daughters: Erin, Kerri, & Kristen. Her two Sisters: Shirley and Pearl. Also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many other extend family members. 8 Grandchildren: Niki, Adam, Ashlee, Courtnie, Meghan, Daniel, Taylor, and Jacob. 7 Great-Grandchildren: Wyatt, Weston, Grayson, Giancarlo, Luca, and Rhett. Pre-deceased by Husband: Adam Quate. Parents: Olaf & Freda Karlstad. Siblings: Kenny, Carolyn, and Delores. Service will be at First Lutheran Church on July 26, 2025. Service time 1:00 pm @1200 Pinecrest Court, Placerville, CA 95667 The Journey: Born in 1937 in Wahpeton, North Dakota, Marion was the first of 6 children. Raised in a devoted Christian home with her parents, Olaf & Freda and all 5 siblings. In Marion’s teenage years, she moved with the rest of her family to Vallejo, California. Then eventually Sacramento, California, where she attended and graduated from Mclatchy High School before going on to Nursing school, and eventually landing her long RN career at Mercy General Hospital. Marion met Adam Quate, her husband of 67 years. They lived in Sacramento and then moved to Placerville in 1988. Together they had 3 daughters, Erin, Kerri, & Kristen. Marion worked for Marshall Hospital as a Registered Nurse, specializing in Cardiac Care. She worked as a nurse for 42 years, and in her later years as a nurse became the RN supervisor. Marion found an immense love for being a nurse and carried a lot of passion and confidence with that profession. She even wore her nursing cap until the day she retired. Marion, with her strong faith in God, served in the health ministry at her Church, where she would stay after service on Sundays to take the blood pressure of the members of the congregation. She always spread the love of Christ every day through her actions, and she always put everyone first before herself, especially her family. Marion was also an amazing seamstress. Sewing her girls beautiful velvet Christmas dresses, mommy & daughter matching Easter outfits… white gloves and all! As well as Irish elf costumes for the annual St Patrick's Day Parade that they wore on the floats, and even a full-on down-filled ski jacket & bib overall matching set that rivaled any big-name brand on the market. She enjoyed the holiday time and was excited to carry on the tradition to her girls and grandchildren of Lefse day, & Norwegian cookie baking day, with the tunes of the Saint Olaf choir, and many Christmas songs. The family would like to thank Marshall Hospital, Marshall Hospital medical staff & all other medical personnel involved for taking care of Marion. It is with great appreciation and thanks that they cared for this amazing woman, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
