Mary Avanelle (Adkins) Dovey was born March 31,1928 in Hominy, OK. She passed away July 7,2021 in Cameron Park, CA at the age of 93. Born to Boyd and Nellie (Logan) Adkins, Mary was the sixth of seven children. Mary and her extended family members migrated to Southern California, where she maintained a close and loving relationship with her mother, siblings, and all their children. For the next 70 years, Mary remained a Californian. She was strong and self-reliant, as a single mom working hard to make-do and to find ways to provide for her young family: Patty, Terry, Craig and Penny. Mary worked many jobs over the years, starting as a secretary, and concluding her professional career as administrative assistant to the President of the Irvine Corporation. In 2003 Mary moved up to Cameron Park to be closer to her children. Still active and independent, she enjoyed travel and visits to family. Health issues finally slowed her down, and limited her independence, but she remained in constant contact with family and friends. "Love of Family" is one of her most memorable traits. She will be remembered as the conduit of information (before the internet, and Facebook) of news for her own children, grandchildren, and the greater Adkins relations of nephews, nieces and cousins. Mary was the prime sponsor of two Dovey Family reunions, 1996 in the San Juan Islands of WA state, and, again, in 2001 at Gig Harbor, and out to Ocean Shores along the Washington coast. It is with profound sadness, but our hearts are filled with great joy at a life-well-lived as she brings our family together once again to say a fond farewell.
