In Memory of Mary Lou Elkins

Mary Lou Elkins passed away on August 31, 2026, at the age of 87. She was born on August 5, 1939, in Vallejo, California to Ruby and Elmer Harrison.

Preceded in death by her parents, Mary Lou is survived by her sister, Virginia Lee Kolbus; her children, Christine Pasco, Jennifer Calhoun, Brenda Layton, and Rick Wiley; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Lou treasured time spent with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed gathering with those she loved and sharing home cooked meals along with recollections of her upbringing. Her stories offered a connection to the past and will remain a cherished part of the memories she leaves behind.

Throughout her life, Mary Lou dedicated many years of service as both a school bus driver and a city bus driver. Outside of work, she had many interests and talents. She loved to bake, filling the homes of family and friends with the warmth and aroma of something made with care. She also had a special love and passion for animals and enjoyed breeding and raising cocker spaniels.

Above all, Mary Lou will be remembered for the time she shared with the people she loved. Her family grew to span five wonderful generations and are an enduring part of her legacy.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Fair Oaks Health Care Center and Mercy San Juan Hospital for the kindness, compassion, and loving care they provided to Mary Lou.

A memorial service celebrating Mary Lou’s life will be held at a later date.
