Mary Pinto

Rescue, California

Mary Louise Pinto passed away on May 26, 2026, in Woodland, California.

Born on July 10, 1925, in Poplar, California, to her immigrant parents, Domenico and Maria, Mary was a proud first-generation Italian American. She was 100 years old.

Mary spent much of her life in the Bay Area, going to school in San Jose, starting a family in Oakland, and raising her two daughters, Joni and Shari, in Castro Valley. Mary married the love of her life, Jim Pinto, in 1964.

After Jim passed away in 2001, Mary continued to show the same quiet strength that had carried her throughout her life. She remained in her home in Shingle Springs, where she lived with her daughter Joni, and her son-in-law, Jim Anderson, before moving to Woodland in 2010.

Mary found joy in many simple pleasures. She loved to read, enjoyed trying her luck at the slot machines, and was always happy to watch a sporting event. But more than any hobby or pastime, Mary's greatest happiness came from being surrounded by the people she loved.

She was blessed with four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Yet Mary's definition of family reached far beyond blood. She welcomed spouses and friends with open arms, open hearts, and open minds. Anyone who entered her home quickly became family. To so many, she was simply "Nana"—a name that represented warmth, acceptance, comfort, and unconditional love.

Mary leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured by years alone, but by the countless lives she touched through her kindness, generosity, and steadfast love. She taught us the importance of family, the value of hard work, and the quiet power of treating everyone with dignity and compassion.

Mary is survived by her son-in-law, Jim; grandchildren, Lisa, Gina, James, and Gabe; great-grandchildren Kenneth, Giovanni, Marissa, Grady, and Hannah; and a great-great-granddaughter, Serenity. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Pinto, and her daughters, Joni Anderson and Shari Castro.
