Michael was born in Folsom and raised in Shingle Springs, California. He went to a wonderful family daycare when he was young where he was cared for just like a member of the family. He attended Rescue Elementary School, Pleasant Grove Middle School, Ponderosa High School and graduated from Independence High School in 2012. Michael couldn't sit still. He was mischievous and athletic which led him to many activities in his short life. He played soccer, basketball and Ponderosa Jr Bruins football. He enjoyed skateboarding and at times it seemed like he lived at Millennium Sports Club working out, playing basketball or playing tennis. He also played golf at the local golf clubs including Cold Springs Golf Club where his family are members. He learned how to play ice hockey in Serene Lakes where some good friends built a pond ice hockey rink. He learned how to ski when he was 2 - then soon thereafter changed to snowboarding. He lived in Santa Cruz for a short time but heard the mountains calling him so he moved back to Lake Tahoe where he snowboarded, hiked or just sat looking at the wonders of life. Michael lit up the world with his infectious smile which came from his soul. The outpouring of love and memories from his friends, family and fellow firefighters and the support of our family and friends has been very comforting. He loved God, his family and friends and the mountains where he lived. His friends held a memorial at Sierra at Tahoe Ski Resort where he worked and a memorial will be placed on top of the mountain he so loved and as fate would have it, was the mountain he was defending when he left us for a better place. A firefighter procession has been held to return him to Shingle Springs. His parents, Kirby and Toni Hallenbeck and sister Jessica will be at his side throughout his journey home. He is survived by his parents, Kirby and Toni Hallenbeck of Shingle Springs, sister Jessica Hallenbeck from Southern California, Paternal Grandmother Shirley Hallenbeck of Mansfield, OH, Maternal Grandfather Earl Roider, Sr of Stockton, CA, Uncle Earl and Aunt Kim Roider from Stockton, Uncle Wayne and Aunt Lisa Hallenbeck from Columbus, OH, and Aunt Su Hallenbeck and Uncle Bill Holland from Oakton, VA. He is also survived by cousins Aaron Roider, Benjamin Roider and wife Gabrielle, second cousin Jayden as well as numerous friends from Shingle Springs, Santa Cruz and Lake Tahoe.
