He lived in Salt Lake for 5 years, whereupon his family moved to Palos Verdes, California. Four years later Robert and his family to Logan, Utah for another 4 years. Robert loved his time in Logan and was very active in scouting, sports and anything and everything outdoors. Due to economic issues, the family moved to Westfield, New Jersey for a year while Robert attended middle school.
Thereafter they moved to Orem, Utah. In Orem completed junior and senior high school, attending Orem High School. Robert excelled in sports and played defensive back on the football team and threw discus on the track team. After graduating from Orem High Robert worked various jobs including public works for Orem City and working with the Bridgeton National Forest in Wyoming. Thereafter Robert served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Colombia, South America. There he learned Spanish and shared the gospel teachings in various cities and towns in Colombia. While Robert was serving in Colombia, his mother Shirley passed away after a long battle with cancer. Robert returned to Utah following his mission and worked on oil rigs in Evanston Wyoming and to earn funds to pay for college expenses. . Robert worked in the oil rigs for 9 months and saved up enough money to buy a car and traveled back to Colombia and bought emeralds and sold them in the US. He did not make the profit he thought he would. In 1983 and 1984, Robert devoted much more attention to his college education at Brigham Young University to prepare for dental school. . Robert still worked summers, including driving to Alaska for the next three summers, where he experienced many more adventures. In some ways, Robert learned to be fearless. Robert married Kimberly Houghton in 1986. They were blessed with two children: Christopher in May 1992 and Curtis in Feb 01 1995. In 1990 Robert graduated from University of Pacific dental school in San Francisco, at one point having some of the best grades in his class.
Robert and Kimberly were divorced in 1998.
Thereafter Robert married Yamileth Castillo on June 22 2001 in Colombia. Robert had previously bought precious gems in Colombia. Yamileth (Yami) was his most precious gem.
Robert and Yami had two children: Sabastian and Cami, born Oct 07 2007.
Robert has been practicing as a dentist the last 35 years. Robert loved being a dentist. He loved trying to help people save money and trying to make people laugh, to help with the associated worry of visiting the dentist.
He loved his co-workers as But Robert’s biggest love was his family. He was extremely proud of his family. And his favorite activity was doing fun things with his family including travel adventures, sports, work and play. He loved to watch his children in their school sports and other activities. Robert’s parting message to all is to be grateful. Robert struggled with difficult health issues for decades but did not let that interfere with his sense of gratitude. People who choose gratitude and forgiveness will always live happier lives. Robert always encourages his family and others to love each other and to choose gratitude, forgiveness, and to unite as often as possible.
Probably the biggest accomplishment in his life is his marriage to Yami Catron. He was married to Yami for over 25 years and he adored her. Robert’s prayer is that everyone can love their wife as much as Robert loved Yami, and that everyone can choose gratitude.
If there is one summary to this message, it's to choose gratitude and adventure.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Yami and his four children: Chris, who is serving the US Army in Colorado, Curtis who is serving in the US Army in the Middle East, Sabastian, working in construction in Cameron Park, and Cami, currently a student at Long Beach State University.
