Robert C Motts (75) of Sandy Utah, passed away on March 14th, 2024, surrounded by family and close friends.
Robert, also known as Chris or Bob, was born to Robert and Joy Motts on December 30th of 1948 in Pittsburg, California. He grew up playing in the downtown neighborhoods of Antioch, California. After graduating from Antioch High School, he went on to study Archaeology at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He had very fond memories, and interesting stories, about his time spent on digs in one of his favorite places, the American southwest.
He was a complex man of science with a deeply spiritual soul. After college he learned to program and went on to work in information technology management for over 35 years, however, his real passions were always in the sciences. He loved to read and had amassed a library of books on many subjects ranging from earth and life sciences to religion and technology. No topic was off limits for him. He had a brilliant intellect and was on a lifelong quest to understand the meaning of life and our place in it. He spent much of his time pondering the complexities and mystery of humanity, our history, the world and universe. He even enjoyed the pseudosciences and mythology, often debating the realities of Bigfoot, UFO’s and strange experiences he had. He was a great storyteller and was famous for making an ordinary incident into a legend. After the passing of his parents, Robert assumed the role of leader within our tight-knit extended family. Our gatherings with him were always filled with story telling, a lot of laughter and love, and then more story telling. He will be deeply missed but will live on through his stories. The memories of him will be with us through the generations to come.
Robert was a loving spouse and partner, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his longtime partner, Patricia Howard and his five children Stephanie Spencer-Jones, Linda (Tina) Mercado (Claudio), Angela Motts-Villegas (Joe Cain), Robert Motts (Betty), & Michael Motts and grandchildren Christian Mercado, Christopher Villegas, Alyssa Mercado, Brandon Villegas, Madison Villegas, Tyler Mercado, Lilyan Spencer, Katie Motts, Thomas Cain, Ethan and Clyde Motts and siblings Kerry Motts, Joyann Motts (John), Kim Stadtlander (Rick) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Linda Motts and parents, Robert and Joy Motts.
Robert’s funeral will be held on March 23, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Green Valley Mortuary & Cemetery, 3004 Alexandrite Drive in Rescue, CA. There will also be a live stream of the service. Please see the details for that through the Green Valley Mortuary and Cemetery tribute webpage.
An open house gathering for family and friends will be held afterwards at the home of his sister from 3pm to 7pm at 419 W 5th Street in Antioch CA.
