Samuel W. Hanna Obituary (2023) - Rescue, California

Samuel Walter Hanna, III died on September 28, 2023 in El Dorado Hills, California. He was born in Berks County, Pennsylvania on February 25, 1935. Samuel was the loving husband to the late Janice Betty Hanna and father to Michelle (Hanna) Miller, Melissa (Hanna) Golhke, the late Samuel Hanna IV, and stepfather to Joshua Berelson. He is survived by his sisters, Jane Sherman and Rosemary Sheetz ; his daughters, Michelle and Melissa; his stepson, Joshua; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sam attended Boyertown High School, graduating in 1952. After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1955, he worked as a draftsman while attending architecture school at night. He worked for several prominent architecture firms including Mitchell Giurgola in Philadelphia, Robinson, Mills, Williams in San Francisco, and Thompson Vaivoda Architects, Portland, OR. His favorite project was the Columbus East High School in Columbus Indiana, completed in 1972, and he always enjoyed his visits back to Columbus. Sam and Jan were very active in their communities enjoying parties, music and various social events. Both were fond of camping in their Volkswagon van and loved to fish, especially at Big Creek, south of Yosemite, CA. They loved their various cats over the years and supported multiple animal shelters. Services will be held privately. The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the animal shelter of choice.
