Rescue, California
We gather today to honor the extraordinary life of Shirline Carol (Hendrickson) Shults, a woman whose journey was marked by resilience, love, and unwavering dedication to her family. Born on March 14, 1938, in Los Angeles, California, Shirline grew up witnessing her parents, Virginia May Knapp and Leslie (Steve) Wilford Hendrickson, working tirelessly to support the war effort during World War II. These early experiences instilled a sense of strength and resilience to carry her through life.
As a young girl, Shirline enjoyed school activities, including participating in the drill team and playing the accordion. During her senior year, she met her future husband, Ted Shults. Their love story blossomed, leading to their marriage on April 14, 1956, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together, they welcomed three sons: Donald S., Russ William, and Steven Lee.
Shirline dedicated herself to raising her three boys with incredible devotion. Despite the challenges of the times, she made significant sacrifices to ensure her family had what they needed. She hand-sewed many of their clothes and managed the family budget with skill and care. Her husband, Ted, worked multiple jobs to support the family, epitomizing hard work and perseverance.
At age 14, Shirline began a new chapter by joining the workforce and eventually became a skilled businesswoman. She worked with various commercial companies and later found a role with the California Teachers Union. Here, she developed lifelong friendships and honed her organizational skills.
Shirline continued to express her creativity through quilting; a craft passed down from her mother and grandmother. She was an active member of The Gold Bug Quilters guild and shared this passion with her grandchildren, ensuring that her creative legacy would endure.
In the late 1980s, Shirline's parents joined the family in Northern California, where she cared for them with the same love and dedication she showed her children. Her nurturing spirit extended across generations.
In 2019, Shirline faced one of life's most significant challenges when Ted passed away. Subsequent isolation due to the global pandemic tested her resilience further. Despite these hardships, she remained a pillar of strength for her family.
Shirline's journey took her across various parts of California—from Inglewood to Los Angeles, from Orange to El Dorado Hills—each place adding new chapters to her story. Her resilience shone brightly as she navigated these transitions with grace.
Shirline's earthly journey has ended as she joins her parents and beloved husband. Her spirit will forever remain in our hearts. We honor her memory by cherishing the lessons she taught us and carrying forward the love she generously gave.
Rest in peace, Shirline Carol (Hendrickson) Shults. Your legacy lives on through your family and friends, who always remember your strength, creativity, and unconditional love.
