Vickey Christine Moreno Obituary (1942

Vickey Christine was born in Long Beach California Christmas Day 1942. She is the oldest of 4 children born to Virgil and June Scott. She was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she remained faithful and active during her life. By the time she was 12 years old she was an accomplished pianist. By 15 she was playing pieces like Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, Debussy's Claire de lune and Chopin's Nocturne by memory and for many cultural events. It was when she was 15 years old the Summer before her Sophomore year that she met her future Husband Danny. For 3 years he would drive her to school every morning. When she was 18 and Danny 23 they married in the Los Angeles Temple February 4, 1961. During their early years they lived in Santa Monica, Venice, and Los Angeles. Vickey was a loving Mother to 4 beautiful children- Martin, Christopher, Carleen and Alisa. Vickey and Danny raised their Family in Buena Park and then in Placerville California. Vickey taught piano and Music Theory to many children and young adults through the years. For many years Vickey did modeling in fashion shows, catalog and print. She also carried on the legacy of the "Coloma Crescent Players"/Olde Coloma Theater that her mother June Scott-Payne founded in the mid 70'S. Vickey enjoyed acting in many of the Plays and Melodramas. She was on the Board of Directors for many years and served as "Madame of Ceremonies" for plays and many other functions. She also created a historical melodrama based on The Gold Rush and Coloma which served as an educational tool for elementary schools statewide. Many remember her promoting community activities dressed in many different theatrical costumes. She was responsible for bringing fresh snow from the Sierras for "Christmas in Coloma" for years. For many years Vickey was a "fixture" at Lotus Park walking several days weekly around the track. Later you could see her doing "laps" with her walker on wheels that she had decorated with silk flowers and ribbons. She met many wonderful people there and developed personal lasting friendships. However her foremost passions were being wife, mother, home-maker, friend and faithful member of her LDS faith. She cherished family time and activities and always found ways to share her enthusiasm with her family in faith, culture, food and fun. Weather "making" her children dance around a May Pole she made every May Day, having "cultural" nights learning about past famous artists, musicians and scientists, or sharing gospel principles from the scriptures and modern day Prophets she managed to keep her family engaged, present and in gratitude. Vickey served her church enthusiastically in many positions but especially with the Young Women and in Primary working with the young children. Vickey felt that one of her most important responsibilities was being of service to her family and others. For more than a decade Vickey suffered from severe chronic pain and major degenerative bone disease yet somehow she always managed to live in gratitude and continued to make those around her feel so special and joyful. When she was down she found comfort in a favorite well known Scripture- Matthew 11: 28-30-- "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yolk upon you, and learn from me: for I am meek and lonely in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yolk is easy, and my burden is light." She exuded happiness and had the ability to see the good in everyone. When she walked into the room with her smile you immediately were aware of her presence. She had great faith in God and her Savior and believed they were with her on this journey. Vickey was a beacon of light and lived her life with faith, dignity, grace and class. We will miss her dearly but rejoice in the knowledge that she is pain free and with so many loved ones and back in the arms of our Father. We have truly been blessed having her in our lives.
