Obituary
Wayne J Haile, born November 30, 1995, age 86, passed away on August 18, 2022 at 7:15pm after a relapse and subsequent spread of prostate cancer. He lived at Oakmont Assisted Living, El Dorado Hills, CA with his wife, Florene, for the last three years. Wayne was born and raised with his six sisters on a small farm in Denair, CA.

Life summary:
• Attended the following churches:
Nazarene - Denair, CA
Nazarene - Little Rock, AR
Nazarene - Norman, OK
Nazarene - North Highlands, CA
Nazarene - Liberty Towers, Sacramento, CA
Methodist - Divide, CO
Presbyterian - Fort Collins, CO
Nazarene - Shingle Springs, CA
• Attended Pasadena Nazarene College 1953-57, BA Psychology, joined the choir and a small acapella vocal ensemble where he met his future wife, (Evelyn) Florene Mitchell. He worked his way through school with odd jobs around the campus. He used to heat canned soup on his ironing board with his iron. He received regular packages of oranges from home. When he was running low on food and money, he would eat mostly oranges and his skin would have an orange tint. As a senior, he was the editor of the PNC newspaper.
• Was picked up in Denair by two cars full of Florene’s relatives in the summer of 1957. We actually have movies of this event! They stuffed him into the back seat, put his suitcase in the trunk, and drove him back to Little Rock, AR where Wayne and Florene were married on September 14, 1957. The famous segregation crisis at Little Rock High School was in full swing just down the block from their new apartment. He joined the Air National Guard in 1957 as a requirement for a child welfare job at the county. He was activated into the Air National Guard for the segregation crisis. While on Active Duty, Wayne received notice to report for a physical examination and induction into service. He took the Federal Services Entrance Exam and was soon hired as an Item Management Specialist for B52’s at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City.
• His 40 year career as a civilian working for the Air Force always involved B52 parts and radar systems. He was called before and after every major event involving B52’s to get the parts shipped before they were required. He became an expert on B52’s and wrote several published letters to Air Force magazines to correct B52 articles.
• In 1972 his job required that he move his family from Norman, OK to Sacramento, CA, where he worked for McClellan Air Force Base.
• Retired in 1999 after 40 years of Federal service.
• Wayne and Florene started spending a lot of summers at the Golden Bell Nazarene Camp in Divide, CO where Florene worked in the office and Wayne helped maintain the facilities. They moved to Divide so they could work at the camp full time.
Hobbies
• Singing - he was always in a choir in every church he attended, singing in holiday cantatas, such as portraying Pontius Pilate, a role he took very seriously, with his usual commitment to doing things well. He often sang solos during the service. Wayne and Florene joined the Cantare Chorale after they moved to Shingle Springs in 2015.
• Piano - he taught himself to play piano. His children remember that he practiced frequently.
• Woodworking - Wayne would create items for homes, some specialty seasonal items, and build benches for people he loved, plus other works of art.
• Building Maintenance - He kept track of things that needed fixing at all of the churches he attended.
